Matthew Willsher, Maxis’ Chief Marketing Officer, said, “Maxis has always been at the forefront of mobile communications and technology. We were the first operator to introduce the BlackBerry wireless solution in Malaysia in 2004 and have continued to lead the way with the introduction of a wide selection of BlackBerry smartphones for our customers. We are pleased to reward some of our most loyal customers with this special party.

“The BlackBerry Bold was one of the most sought after devices when it was launched in 2008 and its successor, the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 with its enhanced features will appeal to customers who value affordability, reliability and performance on their mobile devices. Maxis’ upgraded high speed 3G network provides an excellent experience for Blackberry users, and especially for the increasing number of customers who want to do more with their devices such as social networking. Maxis’ service appeals to customers who wish to enjoy the BlackBerry experience without any hassle and we offer easy upgrade programmes and special offers on Blackberry Internet service packages.”

Maxis is offering the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 at a retail price of RM2,099 for Maxis postpaid customers. During the special launch period from today until 28 February 2010, postpaid customers who purchase the new Blackberry Bold 9700 will be able to subscribe to the Maxis BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) Unlimited service package for a one year period with an up front payment of RM360, enjoying a 75% discount on the normal price of  RM1440.

Willsher added, “We have good news for existing Maxis BlackBerry users who wish to purchase the smartphone from us. There will be a special upgrade programme where they will be given the option of upgrading to the new smartphone without voiding their previous contract. Maxis is the only telco to offer this upgrade programme.”

The touch-sensitive trackpad acts just like the trackpad of a laptop computer, enhancing speeds in accessing menus and icons, and easing navigation in general.  Customers will also enjoy the 3.2 megapixel camera on the Blackberry Bold 9700 which comes with flash, autofocus, image stabilisation and 2x optical zoom.
