It's time to shine for below-the-line (BTL) talents at the Conqueror Design & Print Awards 2010/2011. Antalis (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd with the support of Arjowiggins Creative Papers brought back Malaysia's only design, print and student award for the 5th time after repeated requests from the industry for its return.

With the theme, "It's time to shine!" BTL industry players and creative arts students took the "Face Off" challenge and the Awards saw some 500 entries being submitted this year, an increase of 10% from the previous Awards.

"As a fine paper merchant, we do not only sell paper. Our long-term vision is to promote creativity and to nurture Malaysia's creative economy. This is a good platform for designers, printers, and students to showcase their work. The Awards recognizes and rewards excellence for outstanding works that combine the use of creative papers with design," said Haris Abdullah, General Manager of Antalis (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

"The return of the Awards was also timely as the Malaysian government declared 2010 as the Year of Creativity and Innovation," he added. "The creative industries have already come to constitute an important sector of the ‘new economy' and we are pleased to play a role in its development."

The Design and Print Awards are divided into four categories: (a)Annual Report, (b)Brochure, (c)Calendar, Packaging, Poster, Menu and Invitation/Greeting Card and (d)Corporate Identity. Nine awards are up for grabs including an award for the overall Grand Prix Winner. For students that are interested to become the next "star designer", the Student Design Award gives students the opportunity to acquire valuable exposure in the industry and a chance to be discovered in the professional world.

The winners of the seven categories and the Grand Prix Winner of the best overall entry will be awarded a trophy, certificate and cash bonus US$1,000. The Student Design Award winner will get a certificate of Distinction, a trophy, and cash bonus US$900, whereas the three finalists will be presented certificates of Merit students and cash bonus of US$300 each.

Antalis and Arjowiggins Creative Papers invited designers and printers in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand to submit their best works last December. There will be separate awards presentation ceremonies for winners in Singapore and Thailand. The Singapore chapter starts the night after Malaysia and the finale will be held in Bangkok. The grand prix winners in the Malaysia chapter will be contending with all the other Grand Prix winners to win the best of the best prize among the three regions.

The line-up of judges this year comprise of some of the industry's most recognised names in Southeast Asia including Tan Yew Leong (The Storytellers Sdn Bhd, Malaysia), Chris Lee (Asylum Creative Pte Ltd, Singapore), Opas Limpi-Angkanan (Fontory Co., LTD, Thailand), and Samuel Lee (Bits & Bytes Marketing Pte Ltd, Singapore). To add to the glamour, two famous graphic designers, Kevin Finn (Finn Creative, Australia) and Mun Tuck Wai (Mun Moves Mountains Sdn Bhd, Malaysia) shared their work experiences with close to 400 attendees at a design seminar, which was held as part of the Awards programme. Kevin Finn is also the Chief Judge for this year's Conqueror Awards.

CONQUEROR DESIGN & PRINT AWARDS 2010/2011 WINNERS

The highlight of the Conqueror Design & Print Awards 2010/2011 was the Award presentation night attended by representatives from leading advertising, design and printing firms. That evening, Antalis proudly announced the seven winners. This year, there are five category winners (two from Design and three from Print) instead of seven as there is no winner for the Calendar, Packaging, Poster Category and Corporate Identity category.
